CANADA GEESE. Canada geese are among the most well-known waterfowl species. They winter in the southern United States, and migrate north to breed in the upper Midwest, Canada, and Alaska. There are sizable year-round resident populations found in the central latitudes as well. Their black heads and necks, striking white cheek patches, and gray bodies make them instantly recognizable.

This photograph is from a collection of images from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's image library. The subjects include fish, wildlife, plants, work of the Service, scenic areas, and habitats. All images are for public use.
